We have put together a list of frequently asked questions, categorized by topic, which hopefully will provide answers to any questions. If you need further information, please feel free to contact us at info@trivigor.com.

ATHLETIC ABILITY

Can I still participate in the camp if I have never done a triathlon before?
It is not a prerequisite to have participated in a triathlon before attending the camp. Beginners may use this camp to gain knowledge and skills for a first-time triathlon, while intermediate and advanced triathletes may use the camp for additional training and fine-tuning of skills. Similarly, sports enthusiasts may use the opportunity to enjoy a challenge and improve their athletic abilities.

What happens if the people at the camp are faster than me?
Participants will be divided into two groups -- beginners and intermediate/advanced levels. In doing so, we’ll put together athletes with similar abilities/skills so participants can enjoy a cohesive group experience.

How do I know if I am a beginner or intermediate/advanced level?
We would consider a beginner to have participated in approximately 5 or less triathlons, with an intermediate having done approximately 6-12 events. We would consider an advanced triathlete as having participated in approximately 15 events or more.

I have never swum in an open lake. Is it harder than swimming in a pool?
Swimming in a lake is quite different than swimming in a pool. Lake water is typically cooler and less controlled. In addition, it is somewhat more challenging to enter/exit a lake and to swim in a straight line versus a pool. However, as part of the camp training/instruction, we will practice lake swimming so that athletes can become more comfortable in the open water.

What kind of shape do I need to be in to participate in the camp?
We expect that participants will get the most out of the camp if they are reasonably fit. We also assume that biking, swimming and/or running would be a part of their workout regimen, before arriving at the camp.

How long will we be active each day?
On average, participants can expect to be swimming, running and/or cycling from approximately 3–8 hours a day.

What is the coach to athlete ratio at the camp?
We will aim to have a ratio of approximately 1 to 10, which means for every one coach there will be approximately 10 athletes.

BIKE / SWIM / RUN

Do I need a special type of bike for the camp?
Participants do not need a special type of bike, although triathletes typically ride a road bike. We expect participants will ensure that their bikes have been properly maintained and are in good working order before they arrive at the camp.

What if I do not have a bike or do not want to bring my bike with me? Can I rent a bike in the area?
There are several bike shops in the vicinity of the Interlaken Inn that do have bicycle rentals. Please consult www.interlakeninn.com for the list of bike shops in the area. Please note that bike rentals are not included in the price of the camp and are the responsibility of the participant.

Do I need a wetsuit?
A wetsuit is optional and not required to participate in the camp. We expect the lake water to be warm enough in June for campers to swim without a wetsuit. However, if you do require a wetsuit, wetsuit rentals are the responsibility of the participant and are not included in the price.

How are the bike and running routes supported?
A support vehicle will sweep the routes throughout the bike and running activities and will provide lifts and assistance as needed and feasible.

USAT

What is the USAT? What does it stand for?
USAT is the acronym for USA Triathlon. USAT is the sanctioning authority for more than 2,000 diverse events ranging from local to high profile races nationwide. On the elite level, USAT is responsible for the selection and training of teams to represent the U.S. in international competitions. USAT also conducts national camps/clinics and provides coaching education programs. Please refer to www.usatriathlon.org for further details.

What does sanctioning from USAT mean?
Sanctioning basically means that the camp has been carefully reviewed by an experienced staff at USAT and has been approved as a sponsored event by the USAT. Please refer to www.usatriathlon.org for further details.

What does it mean that coaches are USAT certified?
USAT certified coaches are (1) current members of the USAT; (2) have attended specific educational clinics; (3); have passed a written examination; (4) have current CPR certification; (5) have passed a criminal history check as provided by USAT; and (5) adhere to the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) Ethics code. For a higher level USAT coaching certification, further requirements are necessary. Please refer to www.usatriathlon.org for additional information.
